Why are there two names for the same thing? Essentially, Overdrive is the internet browser-based platform you can use to search for eBooks and audiobooks. The Libby app is the application version of this same platform, built for smart devices like cellphones and tablets.
The collection of eBooks and audiobooks will be the same across both platforms, and you will use the same login information (Jeffco ID) for both. Items you check out on Overdrive should appear in your Libby app and vice versa.
Please contact the Jefferson College Library if you are in need of assistance.
Borrow: Borrow is another word for check out. If a book is available to be checked out, it will say 'BORROW' under the title.
Place a Hold: If all the copies of an eBook are checked out, you can place a hold on the title. If a book cannot be immediately borrowed, it will say 'PLACE A HOLD' beneath the book title instead of 'BORROW.' When you place a hold, you are adding yourself to the eBook's wait list (you may have up to 10 items on your wait list at one time). If you are on the wait list, you will be notified when the item is available for checkout.
Loans: These are the items you are currently borrowing. As a Jefferson College Library user, you are able to have up to 10 eBooks & audiobooks checked out at the one time. View and access your loans by going to 'My account' or clicking the bookshelf icon.
When borrowing an item, Overdrive/Libby will give you the option of a 7, 14, or 21 day checkout period. At the end of the checkout period, the eBook will automatically be taken off your card and checked in -- you will not need to click on the 'return' button. Due to the automatic check-in, overdue fines will not accrue on eBooks.

As a Jefferson College Library user, you have access to a large collection of Overdrive eBooks through our participation in the MOBIUS Consortium. The Overdrive eBook catalog can be accessed and searched by clicking here or going to https://mobius.overdrive.com/.
The Libby app can be downloaded on your smart device via the device's app store. You can find Libby on the Apple app store, the Google Play store, the Amazon app store, and even on a web browser at libbyapp.com. When logging into the Libby app, you will need to make sure you select Mobius Consortium as your library. From there, select that you are using Libby through Jefferson College. You may also need to verify your access by logging into your Jefferson College email account on your device.
The Overdrive eBook collection is full of:
Depending on the device you're using to access the Overdrive eBook collection, you may see different options for accessing the eBook you've borrowed (shown in image below).
1. Read Now with Kindle - If you read with a Kindle, use the first option to send your eBook to your Kindle.
2. Read Now in Browser - This option allows you to read your eBook right there in the same internet browser you're currently utilizing.
3. Download EPUB ebook - This option, noted with a highlighted arrow, will require you to install Adobe Digital Editions software if you want to download an eBook to your desktop or laptop computer. This software is freely available here.
NOTE: If you read eBooks on the Libby app, you may still receive a choice for how you would like to read your borrowed item. However, you can set your preferences in the app, allowing you to bypass this step with each checkout. Reading in the Libby app is easy and intuitive (and borrowed items will download directly to your device so you do not need consistent internet), though you can still opt to send your borrowed titles to Kindle, if you prefer.
